Wunlang Village

Vision and Goal

The vision for the Wunlang School extends beyond the mere construction of a building. Our commitment to Wunlang will continue long after the building is occupied. When the school construction is complete in 2007, the new facility will become a vibrant center of activity for students and teachers throughout the year. Classes will continue through the rainy season. Supplies and equipment will be available to facilitate learning. Food and clean drinking water will be provided to the students. There will be a student-run farm with vegetable gardens and cattle for milk and food. The children will wear uniforms and shoes to school. Teachers will be paid, and they will have an opportunity to pursue their own continuing education. Local staff will be supplemented by a rotation of volunteer teachers and other specialists from America.

Urgent water need addressed

Wunlang villagers are very excited about their new water pump. Water is now available right in the village.

Urgent water need resolved!

With the help of our generous donors, this project has provided a source of clean drinking water for the School and village of Wunlang. These pictures have recently arrived to document the installation of a new bore hole and pump for Wunlang.

Massive Brick-making Project Under Way

The Wunlang School will require more than 100,000 bricks. The cost of purchasing and transporting such a quantity of bricks to Wunlang would be prohibitively expensive and time-consuming. The natural ingredients and skills for making bricks are readily available in Wunlang. When Franco and Ron were in Wunlang last November, they formed a work-crew and mobilized the community to make their own bricks. These pictures have recently arrived to document this project, funded by HelpWunlang.org through contributions of our concerned and generous donors. As you can see, brick-making involves men, women, and children and unites a community eager to play a part in and take ownership of the Wunlang School.
